Two events, one beautiful campus.

That's the catch line that has attracted esteemed educators from around the world are at the University of Regina this week.

The events are organized by the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration (CONAHEC) and UR International.

Educators are here from across North America and elsewhere including Brazil, Cuba, India, Germany, Korea and the Netherlands. The talks are focused on student success in areas of Indigenization and international studies.

The first conference, Connecting Indigenous Peoples in North America: Crafting a Community of Shared Knowledge, is on June 12 – 13 and being held at First Nations University of Canada. It has brought together members of Indigenous communities working in North American higher education to share their experiences, challenges, good practices, and aspirations.
 
On June 14 – 15 the 18th North American Higher Education Conference takes place at the U of R. The theme is Purposeful Internationalization.

Some of the sessions include how universities can recruit students from other parts of the world as well as open new opportunities abroad for students and faculty.
Topics include:

  • Introducing international students to Indigenous Peoples
  • Indigenization through internationalization: An innovative approach
  • International student exchange program model and its advantages
  • Deconstructing the myth of the international student

Following the opening ceremony, the conference will feature the President’s Panel. Dr. Vianne Timmons, President of the University of Regina, Dr. Peter Stoicheff, President of the University of Saskatchewan and Dr. Larry Rosia, President of Saskatchewan Polytechnic, will discuss strategies to encourage international collaborations.

Dr. Timmons serves as a member of CONAHEC’s board of directors.

CONAHEC is a not-for-profit membership-based network of approximately 180 institutions of higher education in Canada, the United States, and Mexico, as well as a select group of institutions from other parts of the world.
